Apostilles 101 :: Upcoming CLE for NYCPA

ApostillesOn Thursday, February 21, 2013, Ian Sierchio from Parasec will give members of the New York City Paralegal Association (NYCPA) an introduction to the Hague Convention of October 1961, “An Intro to Apostilles: Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization of Foreign Public Documents.” The continuing legal education (CLE) presentation will cover an introduction to apostilles and legalizations for use by legal professionals. By utilizing our own field experiences and real-life examples of successes and tribulations, Ian will detail both of these types of certifications and the application thereof.

To the uninitiated, apostilles and legalizations can be daunting and complicated—with few resources for outside advice specific to the given needs of the document. Many firms choose to outsource these tasks to companies with “feet on the ground” and an ability to visit each consulate regularly, giving turnaround times, estimations of completion, and in some cases, simply dealing with difficult foreign bureaucracies on their behalf. As an outsourced product, legal staffs are freed to pursue more efficient uses of their billable time, and hand off the headaches of tracking, handling and shipping these documents all over the world.

In this one-hour presentation, Ian will give you the basic information, background and references to let you take the reins in regard to apostilles and legalizations within your specific field of law. By giving specific anecdotal evidence of past projects (and client horror stories), we can help you navigate simple mistakes and misunderstandings in your future dealings with these types of certifications—both domestically and foreign.
