Maine :: Consumer Alert for Corporate and Non-profit Entities

Maine Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap has issued an alert for corporations and non-profit entities statewide. According to the consumer warning, a company by the name of Corporate Records Service is targeting entities via misleading solicitations. The official-looking documents, which even include statute citations, urge corporations to file information and send payment ($125) in order to complete corporate meeting minutes on behalf of their corporation. In actuality, Maine corporations are not required to file corporate minutes with the Secretary of State’s office.

The alert goes on to clarify that official notices from the Secretary of State’s office will include the following:

  • The Maine state seal
  • The Secretary of State’s name
  • Contact information for the Bureau of Corporations, Elections and Commissions

If you have questions regarding these solicitations or any other suspicious documents you receive in regard to work with the Maine Secretary of State, please contact the Division of Corporations at 207.624.7752.
