Parasec Takes Part in Operation Backpack

Parasec - Operation Backpack
Since 2005, Volunteers of America Northern California and Northern Nevada has worked tirelessly to provide school supplies and backpacks to children in need through its Operation Backpack® program. Since that time, the organization has donated more than 17,000 backpacks to students in need. For the second year in a row, we have committed ourselves to participating in the drive—hoping to do our part to change the lives of children in the greater Sacramento area.
This year’s Operation Backpack® efforts have come to a close and between our BBQ and bake sale fundraisers, as well as a very generous cash donation made by Parasec, we were able to buy, assemble and donate much-needed school supplies and backpacks for 120 homeless and low-income children in our community. We were also able to donate an additional $165, which was used to buy backpacks and supplies for even more local students.
We want to thank and congratulate everyone who made this year’s fundraising efforts so successful. A special thanks goes out to Parasec’s very own Kimberly Alexander, who spearheaded our efforts. Her vision, hard work and dedication made this one of our most successful charitable efforts to date. Kimberly and the rest of our team should be proud that through the generosity of their time, money and spirit, we were able to make such a positive difference in the lives of so many underprivileged kids in our community.

While the Operation Backpack® drive officially ended on August 2, 2013, it’s not too late to help! Check out the Volunteers of America website for campaigns across the United States, or to make a tax-deductible contribution. Go here to help a child in need.
