California: San Diego County Updates FBN Forms

Effective January 1, 2014, San Diego County will make some changes to how Fictitious Business Names (FBNs) are filed. The impending changes are the result of Assembly Bill 1325, and are being implemented in an attempt to deter fraud. Here’s what you need to know:

• You have until 5:00 pm on December 31, 2013 to submit your Fictitious Business Name statements using the old form. Any filings submitted after that time will need to be done so using the new forms.
• The following forms will be updated: Fictitious Business Name Filing, Fictitious Business Name Abandonment, Fictitious Business Name Withdrawal from Partnership.
• When filing in person, a registrant/agent will be required to show a valid government-issued photo ID.
• Any registrant/agent who declares as true any material matter on the Fictitious Business Name statement knowing it to be false is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by fine not to exceed $1,000.
